Old-Time Music


The Valley is an area blessed with rich agricultural lands, a relatively mild climate and played a critical role in the War Between the States as the "bread basket" of the southern forces.  The musical traditions have been shaped by the waves of immigration through the area bringing German, Scotch, Welsh and and other immigrants through the rich valley lands.  Many of the immigrants settled in the
Appalachian mountains to the west of the valley.  These isolated settlements allowed many traditional songs from the "old country" to live on for many years with little or no change.  The traditional tunes were played on fiddle and blended with American instruments such as the banjo and appalachian dulcimer.   Studio Sound Samples
